The Medjugorje Events and Basic Message
"I have come to tell you God exists."
On June 24, 1981, in the mountain village of Medjugorje, Yugoslavia, Our Lady appeared to six children. She identified herself as the Blessed Virgin, Queen of Peace, and has continued to appear to the young people every day. Her message is peace, peace with God and man. In Mary's own words to the children, "I have come to tell the world that God exists. He is the fullness of life, and to enjoy this fullness and obtain peace, you must return to God."
The visionaries continue to have apparitions of the Blessed Mother. During the apparitions the visionaries do not react at all to the light; they don't hear any sound; they don't react to being touched. They feel that they are outside of time and space. All the visionaries declare in substance:
- We see the Blessed Virgin as we see all other people. We pray, we
speak with Her and we touch Her.
- The Blessed Virgin said, "Peace in the world is a state of crisis."
She continually invites us to reconciliations and conversion.
- She promises us she will leave a visible sign at the place of the
apparitions in Medjugorje, for all humanity.
- The Blessed Mother promised to confide secrets to us.
- This time, this period of grace, is urgent. After the visible sign,
those still living will have little time for conversion. For that
reason, the Blessed Virgin invites us to urgent reconciliation and
conversion.
- The Blessed Mother continues to invite us to prayer and fasting: "You have forgotten that with prayer and fasting you can stop a war from happening. You can suspend natural laws."

Medjugorje and Fatima
There is clearly a connection between these two apparitions of Our Lady. Pope John Paul II said "Medjugorje is the fulfillment and continuation of Fatima." At Fatima, Our Lady asked for fasting and prayer so that Russia would not "spread her errors" and there would not be another world war. The world did not respond well, so what she said would happen came about. Now, in Medjugorje, there is an even deeper sense of urgency in Our Lady's plea for fasting, prayer, and conversion to help mitigate the chastisements she speaks of to the visionaries.
On August 25, 1991, Our Lady said: "Dear children! . . . With your help everything I wanted to realize through the secrets I began at Fatima may be fulfilled. I call you dear children to understand now the importance of my coming and the seriousness of the situation. I desire to save all souls and to present them to God. Therefore, pray that all I have started may be completely realized in its fullness. Thank-you for having responded to my call."
Queen of Peace Ministries sponsors the National Medjugorje Conference at Notre Dame each year, and throughout the year spreads Our Lady's message via television and print publications. In the South Bend area, visitors are welcome to attend monthly Mass and other events.
